THE LEGEND OF AUGUST MOON

Ancient Taiwanese legend has it that the world was covered with the blackness of a despotic emperor's rule. Thirsty for more and more power the emperor concocted, from herbs, a potion to give himself eternal life and extend his terrible reign for all time. But to spare the world of her husband's tyranny, his wife, the empress, drank the potion herself and ascended into the heavens. As the grateful people of the land looked up into the once blacked sky to give thanks, they saw a bright moon where once there had been none, and in the moon they beheld the face of their merciful empress.
The Taiwanese still believe in the magic of the moon, and the most special moon of all is the August Moon. Every August in Taiwan and China, when the moon is at its fullest, brightest and most spectacular, families are reunited, loves court and all give thanks for the bounties of the harvest season. But while the magic of the August Moon happens once a year in most of East Asia, it is performed daily at our restaurant. We believe that you will find August Moon is as much a cause for celebration as is its namesake.
